After receiving his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Human Biology in 1993, Dr. Lee graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree from the top-ranked National University of Health Science (formally N.C.C.). He completed his internship training at the Chicago General Health Service and the Salvation Army Clinic. He also completed National’s clinical acupuncture certification program and trained further at the Midwest Center for the Study of Oriental Medicine. Prior to establishing the Rapha Clinic in Virginia, Dr. Lee was licensed and practiced in Illinois and Maryland for several years, treating patients with injury and pain.
Each Patient Is Unique
Dr. Lee’s diverse training and experience taught him that, “Each patient is unique, deserving an individually tailored treatment plan.” He also observed that, “A doctor’s most important task is to accurately diagnose a patient’s condition. Only then can he effectively treat the patient.” He added, “that’s why I have committed myself to keeping up-to-date on the latest healthcare technology and information for as long as I practice.”
Injury, Pain Management & Preventative Health Care
Dr. Lee shows special concern for injury and pain related conditions, spine and physical medicine and preventive health care, due in part to his nearly 40 years of experience in martial arts – he is a certified Master in Tae Kwon Do (WTF) and Self Defense. Dr. Lee has also treated many athletes – amateur and professional – including the Washington Redskins football players. Dr. Lee has served as the sports doctor for the Virginia State TaeKwonDo Association (VSTA) and Virginia State and local TKD Championships. Dreams of Becoming an Olympian were Shattered
Dr. Lee, as a teenager, suffered a two year long illness that shattered his dream of becoming an Olympian in Tae Kwon Do, a Korean Martial Art Olympic Sport. Furthermore, his condition was not diagnosed accurately, despite having gone through 9 major specialists and hospitals, including several major hospitals surrounding Washington, D.C. area.
Diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
After almost a year of suffering with joint pains and stiffness in his elbows, jaw, knees, ankles, and back, he was diagnosed with a rare disease called Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. He was told that if his illness continued to progress, he could die before reaching the age of thirty. It was devastating news for an active teenager and a young athlete with dreams to one day become an Olympian. He could not even walk, so he crawled on his knees to get around at home. He could not open his mouth widely, so he could only intake soup and other liquefied foods. Dr. Lee tried to end his life a couple of times because he found no reason to continue living if he had to live his short life with this disability, unable to play sports or do other things that he loved .
In the midst of living day to day without hope, he was introduced to church and Jesus Christ. As he pondered through life’s issues of where he came from and where he was going, and why he was suffering through this kind of disease at such a young age, he found the answer in the Bible. One night, as he was reading the Scripture, he got to the verse 3 John 2.
“Beloved, I prayed that you’d be in good health and be prosperous as your Spirit prospers.”
To Dr. Lee, it was as if God was saying, “If you want to be physically healthy again, then you need to be Spiritually healthy first.” On the following Sunday, he learned that his Spirit can be healthy by receiving Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. And without hesitation, Dr. Lee invited Jesus Christ as the personal Savior and Lord of his life.
Then his life started to change
Mentally and emotionally, he was very excited about life, filled with joy, peace and hope – even with his inability to walk and play sports. But then physically, through the help of a Korean chiropractic and acupuncture doctor, he found each morning that the swelling in his joints became less and less severe. It was as if a miraculous healing was taking place in his body. He understood that God’s healing touch was in action. Within six months Dr. Lee’s condition improved to the point that his Rheumatologist was in shock to see Dr. Lee walking into her office, without crutches. His blood tests became all negative and she was very curious to the fact of how his disease improved so remarkably within such short period of time.
Became a Chiropractic & Acupunture Doctor
After his recovery, by the Grace and Healing touch of God, Dr. Lee continued his high school, college and post graduate education to become a Acupuncture and Chiropractic doctor.
Today, Dr. Lee lives each day with gratitude for his life, and he finds joy in helping his patients through his noble profession.
